Rick Perry: Poet Lariat

Still Life with Road Apples

those of you
that will be twenty-one
by November 12th
I ask for your vote

dark economic clouds
are dissipating
into an emerging blue sky
of opportunity

flying C-130's
all around the globe
I truly appreciated
the blessings of freedom

freedom of religion
doesn't mean
freedom from religion

Juarez is reported to be
the most dangerous city
in America

George W. Bush
did a great job
in the presidency
defending us from freedom

I may have the genetic coding
that I’m inclined to be an alcoholic
but I have the desire not to do that
I look at the homosexual issue the same way

guns require
a finger
to pull
the trigger

criminals
are not bound
by our laws

we have this class warfare
that's going on now
I don't agree with that
I'm interested in people getting to work

our loudest opponents on the left
are never going to like us
so let's quit trying
to curry favor with them

precious few parents
enroll their boys in the Scouts
to get a crash course
in sexual orientation

America's greatness
resides in the hearts
and the minds
of the people

it's a cemetery
for jobs
at the E.P.A.

spreading the wealth
punishes success
while setting America on course
for a greater dependency on government

I am humbled
by
my own limitations
